I just want to point a disaster in my region: Japanese encephalitis in eastern UP. This is almost every year story and it has already taken a lot of life. Take a quick look on statistics: In last 33 years there are about 50000 deaths and in current year it’s already more than to 400 and still continue. The mostly affected are poor people who do not have much infrastructure or standard living style and because they are poor Govt is not as serious as expected about the menace.
There are not any big Govt hospitals in that region except BRD. Because most of the affected people are belong from poor families so they are not able to go lucrative private hospital. BRD is also working more that their capacity. I had seen more than 50 kids’ dead body in a single day at BRD. Because of over load they just put more than 1 kids on single table/bed and it was shocking to see that the same bed was sharing by live and dead kids. One had already dead and next one was waiting for his/her turn and no hope for their family to save their beloved. It gives me feel like I was living in Afghanistan or any other war prone area. That was most dangerous and scary scene I have ever seen and also made me speechless.
This is really sad that we know about upcoming disaster but do not prepare to fight them, we just take it as destiny or God justice and on other hand our Government also believing the same. You can easily measure their seriousness that current Govt sanctioned only 18 crore for that while about 800 crore for only one park which is part of a lot of same kind of dream project of Govt. It’s not bad to invest in infrastructure but life should cast more than anything else. This virus spreading like nothing else but after 33 years we still not have any vaccination but the serious question that have they ever attempted to develop its vaccination on big level.
I am not arguing that why our capable people not developed anything preventive for that but I am pointing that why we do not have any national debate like swine flu or superbug or why not Govt machinery and constitutional body of that place do anything on mission basis. After all eastern UP is also part of integrated India so Govt and our policy makers must take solid decision for preventing such a massacre.
I am just appealing everyone that please create more awareness about it and hope Eastern UP will get rid of this problem very soon.
